FILM REVIEW-2: THE PRESTIGE BY CHRISTOPHER NOLAN

Image
Film Name: The Prestige Director: Christopher Nolan Two magician friends Alan Borden(Christian Bale) and Robert Angier(Hugh Jackman) become bitter enemies after a tragic accident. They go to several extents in their rivalries to achieve fame. Set in 1860s London, Borden and Angier are two magicians who work under the mentorship John Cutter(Michael Caine), an engineer who sets stage magic. After the incident,Borden seperated himself from Angier and Cutter and started his own carrier. Borden develops a trick called 'The Transported Man', which gave him an edge over Angier. Hence this trick became the source of Angier's displeasure and jealousy. This film is a classic example of Nolan's style of filmmaking, which is all about the complex storyline and keeps you hooked till the end and then traps you into a maze. If you're into mind-boggling sci-fi films which keep a maze for you to solve. This film is for you.

Book Name: The Afghan Author: Frederick Forsyth This book is about an MI6 spy who infiltrates the depth of Al Qaeda to investigate about a terrorist attack codenamed Al-Isra. Mike Martin is a veteran of the Afghan War who during his tenure Afganistan learned the ways and the language of Pashtos. Mike is an imposter by the name Izamat Khan(who is a terrorist imprisoned in Guatemala prison) who infiltrates the Al Qaeda. Forsyth genuinely portrays the lack of scientific education in the Pashto Hills turns the young minds prey to the religious fanaticism and in the end turning out to be aggressive killers. It also shows the corruption in the authorities heading and controlling these terrorist organizations and also their connection with the Arab World of Rich and Powerful. Overall, this spy thriller has a real and humane feeling . Forsyth does a good job by connecting the dots to give a dramatic end to the story. If you like thrillers and specifically spy-thrillers and the complexity aroun...

Book Name : A Train to Pakistan Author: Khushwant Singh This book recounts one of the most horrific episodes of this planet, the partition of India and Pakistan during the year of 1947. As a summary of the situation that time it has been said in the first chapter, "Muslims said the Hindus had planned and started the killing. According to the Hindus, the Muslims were to blame. The fact is, both sides killed. Both shot and stabbed and speared and clubbed. Both tortured." Set in the isolated village of Mano Majra in Punjab where once the Muslims and Sikhs co-existed peacefully but now plunged into an abyss of religious and communal hatred due to hate mob swiveling the place. Instead of delving into the depths of the political insights, he tried to focus on the reality, horror and the believable side. In other words, he has tried to hold the situational side of the villages at the borders of India. This book has been in sheets of controversy for a long time because of it's ra...
